September Events

Those of you who have investigated this website, will realize this is my first season for Joyful Blooms Flower Farm. It has been a summer filled with many opportunities for personal growth, with many lessons learned, as is true with anything worthwhile. If you have questions or comments, reach out and I will share any insights gained this year.

This month is a busy one with the season starting to change, I love this season with the cooler air and warm colours. My biggest hope is that the mosquito population will drop as they have been torturing me daily. Along with cooler temps, strategies to protect the flowers and ensure production as long as possible, is at the top of my list. We are building high tunnels and getting ready to install our frostcloth with a goal of flowers until the end of October, fingers crossed.

In the next week, I am excited about planting our new peonies. This is a good time to plant them but it's a good idea to fertilize for the root development as this will improve flower yield next season. Peonies generally take 3 years of growth before they are fully productive, so next season will hopefully have some blooms but 2028 will be stellar.

The farmstand has been disappointing with most flowers discarded, maybe due to market saturation in the area. Hopefully next year, with a little more brand recognition, it will improve. For the remainder of the season, you can find my flowers at Stonecrest Acres Farmstand, beginning in the coming week. More details to come on this development.
